چکیده

1.Introduction How to create safe redundant copies while securing authenticity, longevity and minimum technology obsolescence risks? 2. Comparison of data medium 4. Benefit of optical discs 3. Technology obsolescence risk Number of shipment of optical drives and players • This technology is used for servers, medical equipment, etc. • Approximately 300 million units were shipped in 2012 (total shipped is 4 billion units). • Blu-ray drives are also capable of playing CDs and DVDs. No compatibility problems in generation. Data migration flow the initial performance test and periodical performance test A) Data migration flow making use of ISO/IEC29121 B) Ideal System to comply with ISO standards. Dedicated tester Dedicated medium Long-term archiving Dedicated recorder Ideal optical recording system It is desirable to use an archive-dedicated product with an appropriate level of basic performance and variance characteristics. ISO/IEC 29121 also mentions the necessity of test drive calibration using a calibration disc to ensure the drive's performance. By utilizing these standards together with properly designed tools, users can create safe archives without complex IT knowledge while minimizing obsolescence risks and the efforts are minimum.

Stability Comparison of Recordable Optical Discs—A Study of Error Rates in Harsh Conditions

The reliability and longevity of any storage medium is a key issue for archivists and preservationists as well as for the creators of important information. This is particularly true in the case of digital media such as DVD and CD where a sufficient number of errors may render the disc unreadable. This paper describes an initial stability study of commercially available recordable DVD and CD me...

Permanent digital data storage: A materials approach

Permanent marks, interpreted as bits, are the sine qua non of deep archival storage. Until about 2006, this area of research apparently did not exist, but advances in the past several years at Brigham Young University and at Millenniata, Inc., have produced one product (the M-Disc a permanent recordable optical disc of DVD capacity), a follow-on recordable optical disc of Blu-ray capacity, work...
